Luas Chronicals

Dominique Davoust
I have never seen the Luas looking so interesting. Nice contrast between the old and the new in stunning black and white shots. Photographer Dominique Davoust is currently exhibiting his Luas Chronicals At The Civic Theatre Gallery, Tallaght 10 am to 6 pm. Last day is tomorrow 30th. If you miss it have a look at his work on the website. Stunning advertising work.

Clean, clear attractive layout presented in just one page from Eoghan. I love the open feel of the layout and the human personal touch of the photography. It needs clearer work samples and again with the yellow highlighting.

Irishstu
Top redesign from Stewart Curry aka Irishstu. Quality and accessible. Nice use of sIFR. Only thing the bugs me is the 37signals(?) inspired yellow highlighting. It interferes with the flow of the design too much.

Design Joint
He has designed the packaging for the collected StarWars box set, Cd covers for White Zombie, Barry Manilow, met the likes of Eric Clapton, Neil Young, The Eagles, Marilyn Manson and more and did their tour shirts. That's an awful lot of names to be able to drop. Currently based in Drogheda.
God awful web site though.

Culture Trail

Cultur
"A cultural trail to Ireland's national institutions" is what it says in this brochure but for some reason only half the Institutions in DUBLIN ONLY were allowed in the gang.
As a tourist trail i can see why it would keep to Dublin, there is only so far those little tourist legs can walk after all but there are many more places then this. Seems quite a narrow focus. Back on topic...Its a nice fold out brochure and map. Bright, colourful and a nice matt feel. Read more for samples.

Douglas Irving Repetto
http://music.columbia.edu/~douglas
Douglas Irving Repetto is an artist and teacher. His work, including installations, performances, recordings, and software has been presented internationally. He runs a number of arts/community-oriented groups in New York City and on the web, including dorkbot: people doing strange things with electricity,
ArtBots: The Robot Talent Show, organism: making art with living systems, and the music-dsp mailing list and website. When not teaching or making art, Douglas spends much of his time cooking, coveting buildings, and socializing with members of the plant kingdom. He is Director of Research at the Columbia University Computer Music Center and lives in New York City with his wife, writer Amy Charlotte Benson; two cute/bad cats, Pokey and Sneezy; and many plants.

Lucy Dunne
http://www.lucydunne.com

Lucy Dunne is currently a PhD candidate at UCD, in the department of Computer Science. Her research interests are in wearable technology of all kinds, primarily electronic technologies. Coming from a background in functional apparel design (BS, MA Cornell University), her research seeks to work within sartorial norms while expanding functionality, through the use of new materials, interfaces, and applications.

"Worn Technology: the Wearer and the Device".
Wearable technology influences the behaviors and identity of the user in ways that extend far beyond the device's interface. This intimate interaction presents new variables for the designer to address while simultaneously presenting new paradigms for human-computer
interactions. This talk will explore some of the many facets of designing
garment-based wearable technology, focusing on the interaction between the wearer and the technology.

RobotLab (TBC)
http://www.robotlab.de
Robotlab is matthias gommel, martina haitz, jan zappe

Robotlab works with industrial robots in public spaces. It explores the relationship between man and machine by means of experimental labs, performances and installations. Robots will play a significant role in future societies and will invade more and more human domains.
The most prevalent robots today are the industrial robots. Their number is rapidly increasing worldwide and has already exceeded one million. With continual development their mechanical and electronical capabilities grow. The direct coupling of precise mechanics and information processing electronics results in a powerful technology which is discussed in the sciences under the subjects of 'artificial intelligence' and 'artificial life'.

Up until now, people haven't had the chance to meet robots neither in public nor in private spaces. robots are mostly situated in special industrial spaces, therefore humans do not have contact with them, do not experience how they behave and do not know how to behave correctly with them. Today social patterns between man and machines do not exist. Instead there are only fictional images from science fiction literature and films. This is where robot lab comes in. We try to create an experimental forum in which the public has the opportunity to interact with robots. The massive appearance of the robots, the movements and the machine sounds effect the visitor and are interpretated individually. The described concept is basically open for subjective as well as scientific views. It is more a vehicle for ideas which lay in the field of practical purposes or which formulate an utopian image of a future culture with man and machine.

Design Works Identity Book

Design Works Identity Book
Design Works have published a book collecting their branding work from the last few years. Some realy lovely examples of some of the best branding and logos in Ireland today.
I would have preferred the logos in colour. The black and white takes away from the presentation a bit. But as they are not selling it it i cant complain. Read more below for sample images.
